Study Lunches

Been coming to the city to study in RMIT library with my sister for the past few weeks in preparation for my exams, I've finished 3 and just one more to go!

SO here are some things that we've eaten...

TARNG: 32 A'Beckett St, Melbourne VIC 3000

We ordered Tofu Tarng ($12) and Bimbimbap ($9) approx. Fairly reasonable price and really close to RMIT and Mlebourne uni!

My sister

Soft Tofu Tarng with rice and condiments

muahahaha

The Soft Tofu Tarng was quite nice, very nice soft textured tofu, but soup was very garlic-y, I couldn't really comment on the bimbimbap because this is only my second time having it! MUST TRY MORE!

We visited wonderbao after lunch...

WONDERBAO: Shop 4/19-37 A'Beckett St Melbourne, VIC 3000

The Menu

I ordered the char siu bao as in the past it seemed pretty decent, I haven't been to Wonderbao in more than half a year not and the quality of the bao has seemed to have dropped tremendously. The Bao itself was really mushy and it stuck on the roof/hood of your mouth a lot. the filling did not taste like char siu at all, tasted more like 'Lv Rou' which is soy braised meat.

Overall, it was pretty disappointing, and I won't go there for the char siu bao again, however I will try the gua bao!

KITCHEN INN:  469 Elizabeth St Melbourne VIC  3000

Being a Sarawakian, I love my kolo mee. Just had to get my Kolo Mee fix!

* For those who don't know what kolo mee is, it's basically blanched noodles mixed with onion infused oil, and it varies from shop to shop, some add vinegar, soy sauce etc but all have Ajinamoto and then topped with minced pork and char siu. THE EPITOME OF UNHEALTHY but, so damn delicious! (LOCAL TO SARAWAK!!)

So the first time I went to kitchen in was last October when it opened, and me and my 2 brothers ordered Kolo mee and Kampua

*Kampua -> foochow noodles blanched, I feel like it's like kolo mee and the only difference I know of the two, is that Kampua uses lard. (please correct me :c)

After trying both of them, we were a bit confused. I thought the kampua tasted more like kolo mee than the kolo mee did!! The Kolo mee was sweet, because they added 'red'/ char siu sauce, and I didn't like that at all, usually at home you'd be able to choose if you wanted it red or not. The noodles were overcooked (for the 3 times I've been there), so please request for it to be be blanched for a shorter amount of  time!!!!!

Taste wise, it's better than nothing, if you were an avid kolo mee eater back home in Kuching, this wouldn't wow you.

This is the Kampua ($9)

GEKKAZAN  ( Kenzan) @ GPO:Shop 28g Postal Lane 350 Bourke St Melbourne, VIC

Craved for sushi! so decided to head down to Gekkazan for some. The first time I've been here was when my older brother brought me to try their "Spider roll" they're famous for it and it was delicious! They're also quite different from other generic sushi shops in that they wrap their sushi seaweed in plastic so it doesn't get soggy! WOO!

Grilled Salmon flake onigiri ($3-4??)
I wouldn't recommend this, when they say flakes... they really mean flakes...:'(

We also got Mentaiko onigiri, this one I liked, the mentaiko was fresh and yum! and who doesn't love a ball of nice japanese rice!

After our onigiri, we decided to just go next door to have ramen at Ramen Ya

RAMEN YA: 25G/350 Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000

We ordered the house specialty CharShu Ramen ($10), sister got the set which came with tea and 3 gyoza's for $14

*ATTENTION! TO YA'LL BROKE UNI STUDENTS LIKE ME. It's happy hour on week days from 3 pm till 4.30 pm?? so a bowl of charshu ramen is only $7 dollars! and $11 for the set! GET ON IT!! super deal!!!

mm, the noodles were QQ overall pretty good, will come back for more especially for the $7 deal

We got green tea ice cream from their loyalty card because sis has eaten here a few times.
YUM MY FIRST TIME HAVING NICE CREAMY GREEN TEA ICE CREAM <3 <3
LOVED IT!

That's the end of my super long post on ma food adventures in the city with my sister! Hope you guys enjoyed  and stay tuned for more! I WILL UPDATE MORE REGULARLY.
