Study Lunches

Been coming to the city to study in RMIT library with my sister for the past few weeks in preparation for my exams, I've finished 3 and just one more to go!

SO here are some things that we've eaten...

TARNG: 32 A'Beckett St, Melbourne VIC 3000

We ordered Tofu Tarng ($12) and Bimbimbap ($9) approx. Fairly reasonable price and really close to RMIT and Mlebourne uni!

My sister

Bimbimbap with miso soup and condiments

Soft Tofu Tarng with rice and condiments

muahahaha

The Soft Tofu Tarng was quite nice, very nice soft textured tofu, but soup was very garlic-y, I couldn't really comment on the bimbimbap because this is only my second time having it! MUST TRY MORE!

We visited wonderbao after lunch...

WONDERBAO: Shop 4/19-37 A'Beckett St Melbourne, VIC 3000

The Menu

I ordered the char siu bao as in the past it seemed pretty decent, I haven't been to Wonderbao in more than half a year not and the quality of the bao has seemed to have dropped tremendously. The Bao itself was really mushy and it stuck on the roof/hood of your mouth a lot. the filling did not taste like char siu at all, tasted more like 'Lv Rou' which is soy braised meat.

Overall, it was pretty disappointing, and I won't go there for the char siu bao again, however I will try the gua bao!

KITCHEN INN:  469 Elizabeth St Melbourne VIC  3000

Being a Sarawakian, I love my kolo mee. Just had to get my Kolo Mee fix!

* For those who don't know what kolo mee is, it's basically blanched noodles mixed with onion infused oil, and it varies from shop to shop, some add vinegar, soy sauce etc but all have Ajinamoto and then topped with minced pork and char siu. THE EPITOME OF UNHEALTHY but, so damn delicious! (LOCAL TO SARAWAK!!)

So the first time I went to kitchen in was last October when it opened, and me and my 2 brothers ordered Kolo mee and Kampua

*Kampua -> foochow noodles blanched, I feel like it's like kolo mee and the only difference I know of the two, is that Kampua uses lard. (please correct me :c)

After trying both of them, we were a bit confused. I thought the kampua tasted more like kolo mee than the kolo mee did!! The Kolo mee was sweet, because they added 'red'/ char siu sauce, and I didn't like that at all, usually at home you'd be able to choose if you wanted it red or not. The noodles were overcooked (for the 3 times I've been there), so please request for it to be be blanched for a shorter amount of  time!!!!!

Taste wise, it's better than nothing, if you were an avid kolo mee eater back home in Kuching, this wouldn't wow you.

This is the Kampua ($9)

GEKKAZAN  ( Kenzan) @ GPO:Shop 28g Postal Lane 350 Bourke St Melbourne, VIC

Craved for sushi! so decided to head down to Gekkazan for some. The first time I've been here was when my older brother brought me to try their "Spider roll" they're famous for it and it was delicious! They're also quite different from other generic sushi shops in that they wrap their sushi seaweed in plastic so it doesn't get soggy! WOO!

Grilled Salmon flake onigiri ($3-4??)
I wouldn't recommend this, when they say flakes... they really mean flakes...:'(

We also got Mentaiko onigiri, this one I liked, the mentaiko was fresh and yum! and who doesn't love a ball of nice japanese rice!

After our onigiri, we decided to just go next door to have ramen at Ramen Ya

RAMEN YA: 25G/350 Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000

We ordered the house specialty CharShu Ramen ($10), sister got the set which came with tea and 3 gyoza's for $14

*ATTENTION! TO YA'LL BROKE UNI STUDENTS LIKE ME. It's happy hour on week days from 3 pm till 4.30 pm?? so a bowl of charshu ramen is only $7 dollars! and $11 for the set! GET ON IT!! super deal!!!

mm, the noodles were QQ overall pretty good, will come back for more especially for the $7 deal

We got green tea ice cream from their loyalty card because sis has eaten here a few times.
YUM MY FIRST TIME HAVING NICE CREAMY GREEN TEA ICE CREAM <3 <3
LOVED IT!

That's the end of my super long post on ma food adventures in the city with my sister! Hope you guys enjoyed  and stay tuned for more! I WILL UPDATE MORE REGULARLY.

PROMISE!

Hey guys :)
Little update on what's going on so far...
Been pretty busy studying for exams, its in 11 days and I still don't feel prepared.
Geoscience assignment is due tomorrow and another on the 5th of June.  Been staying up quite late to study recently too!  So I spent last night catching up on sleep.
Here are some pictures from this month. As you can see I've been having coffee quite a bit haha
Rare for me, but now I see why people need it. I feel so awake after having coffee, it's amazing!! Though it does take a toll on your wallet :(
Can't wait till after exams :)

Some succulents on the neighbours gate
Had a few late night study sessions with my sister and dad made us kwoaaafee

9-5 day and i just really needed one! (all the money spent on coffee :'()

Been eating a bit of bread lately... it's horrible as in it made me gain a lot of weight or just feel extremely bloated in a short amount of time,  I'm so glad I stopped!
Opps. just had to get one (four) selfies in

hehe

Monday 15 April 2013 week 6

Met up with my primary school friend, Zhi Li from Kuching on Monday evening. So lovely to chill with her again, we went to Pepper Lunch on Elizabeth St for dinner.

Meh pepper lunch, it was the first time trying it for the both of us...honestly, I don't get the craze, it's so popular in Asia, but maybe they make it differently in Asia compared to Australia,  like how maggi noodles and campbells instant soup tastes different in Australia and Malaysia.

After that I just chilled at her apartment for a bit and then left for home early because I had uni at 10 the next day :'(

Overall a good day. Always nice to catch up with old friends.

We also had chatime!! Mmmm sudden craving for a mango ice shake. Yum my favourite!!

While we were in Kuching, there was this kitten that kept wondering around our compound, we soon took him as our own by feeding him everyday. We called him cat, he's so affectionate but sometimes he really meows too much :( we also didn't dare carry him just in case he had bugs since he was a stray cat.

My aunt loves cats and has quite a few herself and she supplied us with some cat food.

Nawwww meow! :3

Streams in Camp Permai

Such a beautiful day out!! Very rare for Kuching! It was so pretty I just wanted to stay there all day!

Puddles of water running from the mountains making its way to the sea! sometimes, you can find prawns or small fish in these puddles, the water is really cool as well!

Sister walking towards the beach

Jumping in joy!! it was actually a slow motion capture but i liked this screenshot haha.

am I a model yet? *derpette face*

Mark and Little brother, Ewan.

Saw some monkeys as well!! they're cute! but they're known to be very aggresive and have been known to snatch tourists DSLR cameras hahaha. Beware!

Our impromptu holiday to Taiwan! We flew via Malaysian airlines and Eva Air RM1500 return  KL-Taipei

Short 1 hour and 45 minute plane ride from Kuching to KL. We had quite a long transit in KLIA so we had some DOME chicken pot pie. oooohh.. it was good, haven't had it in so long.

After 4 hours of being in KLIA, we finally boarded our KL-TPE plane. Eva Air was amazing, the crew, the service, the food, and the seats!! Wow! super impressed!! hah and this airline is only supposed to be a side business!

I think we arrived in Taipei fairly late but luckily the night market close to the apartment we stayed in was still open!

but first, we stopped by 7-eleven! I kid you not, there is a 7-eleven  on every single building block, and they have food and snacks like buns, or ready made meals ready to go! they also pay their parking there (super convenient)!!

also! they call 7-eleven, 7 for short.
All dat cup noodles
ok. off to the night market!

Skewers all day err-day!

Saba, they were the bomb, so fresh and juicy!!

Dad was loving it!
Famous smelly tofu!! smells so bad but actually tastes fine!

On the way to the night market, we were walking along this street thats famous for having a whole row of pet shops, all the cats and dogs there were so ridiculously cute! Many taiwanese have dogs as pets!
Midnight snacks from 7. to our surprise... the xiao long pao was actually not bad!!!!!

Common scene in Taiwan, everybody uses scooters to get around!

Another common scene in Taiwan are good bakeries!!! everywhere!! they looked so delicious, we tried one that had olive ciabatta, and woah. it was amazeballs

me and my sister! selfies at the traffic light, hehe we were walking from our apartment to the original DTF, Din Tai Fung on Xin yi road.

so close to my chinese name but yet so far :'(

Xin yi road, lots of construction because they're building their MRT

We have arrived!!!

The beest Xiao Long Bao ever!!!!
I was expecting it to be better than the chains in KL or singapore but it tasted the same, I guess they have maintained their standard throughout all their branches. The only thing that was different was that they had brown rice fried rice and it was really delicious!!

Veggie Starters, so yummmm

went walking after lunch, woohoo! Taipei 101!!

escalators to the MRT

soooo clean!!!!

the famous Ah Zhong Mien Xian! it was pretty Yummy!

Freedom square

Xi Men Ding at night.
The famous shilin market! we had really yummy chicken chop there, the line was pretty big but it was well worth the wait!! 55 NTD for one!

Skewers again

dem sausages so big, didn't try it though

On another day, we went to look for the best beef noodles in town (according to numerous blogs and friends)
and the noodles there was well and truly amazing!!! prices ranged from 200 NTD to 220 NTD for a bowl of  red braised beef noodle soup!

the kitchen!

their menu,

starters again!! they were delicious!!
we went there another time because it was just too good!!
dad also ordered braised pork nuckle, oh gosh.. it was amazing

I don't know why but I didn't even take pictures of the beef noodles!! they were so mouth watering that I didn't even bother!! but trust me on this one, they have amazing beef noodles, I think they're better than the ones from DTF!

While walking around after our meal, we walked past this bakery that sold this pastry 'su bing'. wow it was so delicious and yummy!! and workers there were so friendly too and they told us where to walk around and everything!!

we bought two boxes! wish we got more!!!

Well that's half of it, I think I'll have to do the other half the next time I have the chance :)  IT WILL COME!!!
